This museum is located at 1378 Shukrawar Peth. Dr. Dinker
kelkar started collecting artifacts from around 1920. He used to
exhibit these collections to friends and family. Day by day, his
collection started growing in number and attracted even foreign
visitors. With the help of state government as well as local bodies,
his collection started growing further and now he could turn his
collection into a regional museum for western India. Dr Kelkar
handed over the museum to Archaeological Dept. of Maharashtra in
1962.
Dr. Dinker being a true art lover collected various objects from
day to day life including pots, lamps,pens ink stands etc. The
museum also houses carved woodden doors and windows from Rajesthan,
Gujrat, Kerela and Karnataka.
The Mastani Mehal which was made here after dislodging it from its
original place is the main attraction. The reconstruction of
audience room from Mastani Mehal is also incredible. The museums
also holds some of the Mughal antiques including paintings and day
to day instruments. The museum is open from 10:00am to 05:00pm daily
except for government holidays. Rickshaws are the best way to reach
here as it is located in the heart of the city. The entry fees for
Indian visitors is Rs.8 and Rs.80 for foreign visitors.
